REPROBEL

In today’s digital world, it is very easy to reuse copyright-protected text and images picked from the internet to re-use within your company. We are all cutting and pasting copyrighted text and images, saving interesting articles from the internet on a smartphone, tablet, computer or server. There are millions of copyrighted text and images on the internet. And more are added every day.

As a company, or organization, you legally need a license for any digital use of external copyright-protected works. By making a contribution to Reprobel, you can do so without infringing the rights of authors and publishers.

SUPPORTING REPROBEL IN COMMUNICATION

The briefing of Reprobel was challenging: although an increasing number of companies and organizations are protecting themselves against copyright risks by getting the Reprobel Combined License, there are still too many that do not subscribe. With a communication plan combining social media and public relations, we aim to reach those organizations convincing them to sign up: to protect themselves from legal claims, and to return the necessary and just funding of the creative sector.

To reach the target group of CEO’s and CFO’s, we have set up interviews with the two leading financial Belgian newspapers, ‘L’Echo’ in the French speaking part of the country and their counterpart ‘De Tijd’ for the Flemish region. They covered topics twice, the first time at the start of the new campaign, and later to reflect on the achieved results.

WHAT WE DID

We capitalized on World Copyright Day (23th of April) as a top topical to give a voice to the creative sector, the benificaries of the success of Reprobel’s Combined License, as more than 90% of the collected funds by Reprobel are transferred to the creative persons themselves.

youEngine contacted the famous Belgian stand-up comedian and writer, Geert Hoste, to write an opinion piece that was published in the leading business magazine Knack, stating that not paying for copyrighted content is an existential threat for the creative sector.

RESULT:

Reprobel, until a few years ago seen as a somewhat dull organization that collected remunerations based on old fashioned photocopies, can today call itself the world leader (in collections per capita) in business licensing for copyrights on texts and images.
